Henrietta Rix is the Co-Founder & Brand Director of fashion label RIXO and her partner Ronan Keenan works in Property. Ronan was a childhood friend of Henrietta’s brothers, as well as her teenage crush! Henrietta remembers their first kiss at a local bar in Cheshire, then they fell out of touch when they both moved to London. Ronan reached out to Henrietta out of the blue and invited her on a date around 10 years after that first kiss, they went to the men’s finals at Wimbledon – She knew he was the one straight away.
The best part of our day was….
Sitting on the top table looking out onto all our family and close friends, it was such a special moment having everyone together, and to be sat there with our baby boy too was unforgettable.
We choose to get married at…
In the garden of my family home. Ronan and I are both from the same area, and we spent lockdown there – we were living there when Ronan proposed and then when we had our son Wolfe, so it’s filled with so many incredible memories for us. We wanted the day to feel like a summers’ celebration with all our closest, so having it at home was a no brainer. It felt like a big house party!
I knew I found ‘The One’ when…
I designed my own RIXO bespoke dress myself, I based it off a gorgeous vintage peach dress of my mums that I had loved for years. I had always known I wanted to incorporate it into my wedding dress!
I started the design process 6 weeks before my wedding, so hadn’t given myself too much time for mistakes – after a few appointments (and tears!) with the dressmaker we got there. I was so happy with it – I knew I wanted it to be backless, so I incorporated hand- smocking so that I wouldn’t need to wear a bra, which was perfect!
The most enjoyable moments of planning were…
I didn’t have a wedding planner so did everything myself which I’m really happy I did as there were so many personal touches throughout the day. I loved spending time with my mum planning little elements. One of my favourites was drawing out the table plan; each table was named after one of our pets and we hand painted little illustrations – we sat guests on tables that would have brought back some funny memories!
The hardest part of planning was…
We were planning our wedding and bringing up our newborn (amongst many other things!) – it was a big juggle and Wolfe was our priority, but we just kept remembering to enjoy ourselves and not get too stressed with all the details. I’m quite relaxed, I always knew it was going to work out in the end!
The best accounts to follow on Instagram for big-day inspo are…
Instagram accounts & Pinterest are great for inspo but I was pretty set on how I wanted my wedding to be so didn’t lean on them for my vibe. I didn’t want a strict colour scheme or theme, I wanted it to be personal to us as a couple, for example we collected random vintage oxo flower vases at flea markets & the flowers I wanted to be seasonal English grown meadow flowers.
The best person to follow on Pinterest for bridal inspo is…
I’m not on Pinterest, but I’m sure I would have got lost in all the inspiration!
My top three tips for any couple would be…
Don’t spend ages on photos, I literally told my photographer to just capture the day – we had max 10 mins of “staged photos”
Don’t sweat the small things… it is what it is on the day, relax & enjoy!
Make sure to steal some time just you two on your wedding day amongst the madness!
If I was able to do it all over again, the one thing I would change is…
I wouldn’t change anything; it was the most perfect day!
