As we celebrate all those recently engaged over the Christmas and New Year period and start to welcome the 2023 wedding season, it’s the perfect time to highlight some upcoming trends. With a strong focus on meaningful moments and sustainability, discover the features that will be popular at weddings this year.
Wild welcome parties
Why only celebrate for one day when you can party for two? Welcome parties are quickly becoming more of a hit and offer couples a chance to spend time with their closest family and friends prior to the big day. From intimate dinners with panoramic views to a mega boat party on the crystal clear Adriatic Sea, welcome parties are the perfect way to celebrate the momentous occasion away from traditions. They also provide the opportunity to tease the vibe for the following day, including colour schemes and aesthetics, or to include themes that couldn’t be incorporated within the wedding day itself!
Outdoor weddings
It is becoming increasingly popular at weddings to choose a venue that embraces the natural elements. Couples are falling in love with spaces such as manor houses for the acres of incredible land and the amount of potential it gives them to work with. The open space surrounded by nature offers the possibility to build your own marquee structure, creating an environment that projects everything you want. The outdoor settings also offer the perfect backdrop for wedding photos that look organic and capture the couple naturally.
Statement bridesmaid dresses
The days of uniform blush and navy bridesmaid dresses seem to be numbered with the traditional colour schemes being replaced with a modern and chic look. With multiway bridesmaid dresses thriving last year, unique tones and patterns are set to take this one step further! We believe the unconventional trend of bridal parties dressed in all white will be particularly popular in the upcoming season, a choice many would never dream of, but we think actually looks very effective!
It’s all about the bar
Unique bar shapes and wild cocktails have changed the game. Couples now want innovative designs included in their big day. Bartenders using ice blocks for chippings and impressing guests with their mixology skills create the perfect drinks reception buzz while making your wedding even more memorable. Bespoke drinks made especially with the couple in mind, also offer the wedding party a unique experience that entices all their senses.
Don’t diss the live DJ
With so many entertainment options out there, selecting a performer or band can be overwhelming, which is exactly why live DJs are taking over the scene! Creating bespoke playlists and working with one or two talented musicians offers a soundtrack that matches the crowd perfectly while immersing guests in a completely live performance. The combination of a DJ with live instruments offers continuous beats with the stage presence of a band, keeping guests on the dancefloor all night long, a trend that is definitely becoming more popular among younger couples.
Sustainable traditions
This year is all about making sustainable tweaks to everyday life, which includes being more conscious about weddings. On average 181kg of general waste is produced from a wedding due to the excessive amount of ‘single-use’ items. This year we can expect to see more thoughtful décor choices by incorporating seeded paper and potted flower arrangements, reducing the amount of waste while offering guests the perfect takeaway items. To add to this, renting or buying second-hand wedding dresses is in! Companies such as PS Bridal, Still White and The Loop, are revolutionising purchasing a wedding dress, offering a platform for brides to access high-end, designer dresses for a fraction of the price and environmental impact, the kind of movement we are very much behind
Carbon neutral weddings
For couples who want to take their sustainable wedding one step further, carbon neutral weddings are the way to go!
An increase in intimate wedding ceremonies has resulted in couples eager to take their wedding abroad. However, the beautiful seafront ceremony and the ability to dine and dance in the warm open air require various flights and transportation for the wedding party, resulting in a higher carbon footprint. To reduce the impact this has on the planet, actions such as planting trees and funding renewable energy sources can help to ‘offset’ the amount of carbon released.
We hope to see couples, suppliers and venues working to try and reduce their carbon footprint during the planning process, making weddings in the future much more sustainable.
